During the coldest days of winter, I often hike the woods of New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania with my family. There’s something stunning about the landscape around me, especially when covered by ice. Winter changes the geometry of everything, and I’m amazed by the unique, rigid textures of plants that challenge the harsh cold. In this painting, as a piece of my seasonal series, I portray winter as a time of temporary stasis, quiet strength, and beauty. By creating a large composition with intricate details, I demonstrate that life is still present in winter, just in a different form. My painting offers a unique perspective of winter beyond its reputation as a barren season. It serves as a metaphor that even the most bleak parts of life can present their own form of charm, for those who choose to look close enough.
